Who Are We?

​

We are The Ascenders, a family band from Chico Ca. Our music ranges from the classic sound of the 60s and 70s funk, rock and blues to deep space jams, americana inspired ballads and rock n roll. We got our start learning the music of the Grateful Dead, playing as a three piece family unit with father Darby McConnell on drums, eldest brother Aziah McConnell on bass and second eldest Baynayah McConnell on guitar. Throughout the past ten years we have gathered a following playing our interpretations of Grateful Dead music in a convincing and fresh way, incorporating both new spins to the songs while remaining true to the music. As we evolved as a band we broadened our musical repertoire with original music and various other classic and obscure covers. Most of our shows consist of a mix of original and cover songs.

Along the way we recruited the talented Glenn Tucker of GravyBrain, JC Flyer, Dog Named Blue and The Deadbeats.
